Interviewing Techniques
Gain confidence in taking informed and sound personnel selection decisions to improve the recruitment and retention of staff by:
- Clarifying the purpose of the interview and preparing yourself using job analysis and defining relevant criteria.
- Appreciating the importance of organisation ‘cultural fit’ as well as ‘technical fit’.
- Preparing the interviewee and the environment in which the interview will take place.
- Structuring the interview following a blueprint and overcoming potential pitfalls.
- Practising key skills such as building rapport, effective questioning, active listening.
- Recognising the impact and importance of non-verbal behaviour including posture, eye contact and gestures.
- Identifying successful decision making criteria and understand what affects your judgements.
