These will be delivered in a number of ways, including the programmes run directly by the BDTA, the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme and in due course through an NVQ qualification.

Facilitation of City Challenge Team Building event
I have known Stacey since she joined the City Challenge facilitation team in October 2001. Since this time Stacey has been one of the most outstanding members of our team delivering to an extremely high standard without exception on every occasion.
City Challenge is an experiential training activity which literally takes the classroom outside into the environment and it calls upon a facilitator to draw upon all their skills and knowledge and impart them to individuals ‘in the moment’, without the use of any training aids to move people forward in their learning process.
Stacey is able to absorb, observe and reflect on individual’s behaviours, mannerisms and way of talking and impart her observations in such a manner that enables individuals to apply them immediately and take positive action.
Stacey is extremely intuitive which makes her a skilled and respected facilitator. She has the ability to give feedback in a succinct, straightforward and honest way ensuring the recipient understands the information she imparts. She has an engaging, friendly accessible personality making her an approachable person that delegates respect and listen to. She has a vast amount of learning experience and knowledge which she draws upon. She has a talent for translating theory into practical applications that delegates can then use back in the work place and is able to assist delegates through the learning process by coaching, challenging, supporting and summarizing.
Jane Read, Founder and Managing Director of City Challenge.
Design of Competency Framework
The City Challenge team development experience focuses on some clearly defined HARD skills such as planning, time-management, problem solving and negotiation, as well as the SOFT, interpersonal skills such as communication in all forms, decision making, listening, dealing with conflict and pressure and moral building. Whilst the hard skills can be more easily defined, the soft skills used to build teams in the corporate arena are also applicable to us in all areas of our lives, but by their very nature can be difficult to evaluate. In order for City Challenge to demonstrate to potential corporate buyers it was essential that we were able to ‘drill down’ into specific detail around both hard and soft skills. Likewise for a group experiencing City Challenge team building, it is essential to focus attention and development discussions around specific hard and soft skills, i.e. to give individuals the applicable learning which would enable them to move forward in a positive way. City Challenge needed to produce a template in which discussions could be focused around these skills and which would also enable facilitators to write comprehensive reports post an event to give further development choices for the team and for individuals.Stacey’s experience and knowledge of City Challenge made her the ideal choice when we formalized the learning experience around the hard and soft skills into our clearly defined Core Competencies. Stacey authored the Core Competencies http://www.citychallengeuk.com/core.html and designed the template form against which these competencies are measured.

Manager as Coach / Advanced Manager as Coach
Designing and delivering an ongoing series of programmes to 200 staff from director level to site staff, to promote a coaching style of leadership. These programmes are an essential element of a global property client’s Total Performance Management (TPM) initiative, providing an introduction to people management within the context of TPM; giving practical know-how to coach individual and team performance and conducting effective performance reviews.
“We have been working with Stacey Holden for four years. During this period she has designed two programmes with the objective of engendering a coaching style of management at Jones Lang LaSalle Resources, and delivered these across the organisation from site based staff to National Director level. More recently we have wanted to dovetail the coaching work into our new Individual Performance Management system and Stacey has designed the Advanced Manager as Coach programme to enable this to happen. From our perspective Manager as Coach and Advanced Manager as Coach are vital to meeting our business objectives. They are strengthening relationships across the organisation, particularly between asset managers and those staff based at our managed properties; equipping people to be able to give praise, feedback and accurately review performance of both direct and contract staff; getting comfortable with having difficult conversations and maximising the potential of individuals and teams and from service delivery. The programmes are meeting our objectives and the delegate feedback shows that their needs are being met also; words used to describe the process include ‘enlightening’, ‘participative’, ‘challenging’, ‘real,’ ‘exceptional’ and ‘fun’. From our perspective the success of Manager as Coach and Advanced Manager as Coach is achieved in two ways: by the energy, knowledge and professionalism brought to the design and delivery of the programmes and by the quality of the support materials that supplement the events.”

Teambuilding
Team building session to clarify team vision, direction and priorities and strengthen team cohesiveness.
“Following changes to our team, including new objectives, a new operating model and significant staff changes, we needed to re-group and unite the team around some common values and aims. Stacey helped us develop a workshop which enabled the team to air, and then shed, their concerns or angst about the restructure and build their own vision of how we wanted to work together in future and what we wanted to achieve. I believe that everyone came away feeling refreshed, re-focussed and more united. Six months on, I believe we have much greater clarity of purpose and better working relationships within the team.”
